The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), has ranks Malaysia the ninth most travelled to destination in the world in 2009.
Malaysian Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen said although 2009 had been a difficult year for tourism globally, it a good year for the Malaysian tourism industry.
Malaysia attracts 23 million tourists in 2009.
In 2009, there were only slight changes to the rankings of the top 10 destinations by international tourist arrivals, while the ranking in terms of tourism receipts remains unchanged compared to the 2008 list.
The first three places in both arrivals and revenues are still occupied by France, Spain and the USA though in a different order.
In 2009, France attracted 74 million tourists and continues to be world's leading tourist destination.
The USA ranks first in receipts with US$94bil and second in arrivals with 54 million tourists in 2009. Spain maintains its position as the second major earner worldwide and the first in Europe, and ranking third in arrivals with 52 million tourists.
